Members would register, select the 'groups' they are interested in and sign up where they can, reminders required especially if insufficient number of attendees make a particular event a none starter. Groups might include: venture capitalist looking for 'the next big thing', product launch consumer groups/peer assesment, Franchises. The events pay for themselves through a cover charge. The organisation makes its profit through registration & website marketing. The site should dynamic, fresh and somewhere you want to visit daily?
