I got an email from a microPledge.com today - an invitation to their pre-launch website. Apparently I had pre-registered my interest in their site but I only vaguely remember visiting it once. The idea behind the site is a good one I think: If you want to see a piece of software developed, post it on the website and then you and other people who like your idea can each contribute small amounts to pay for its development.

As I have said in an email to microPledge, I think the website has potential, particularly if they partner with other idea sites like Cambrian House, Cofoundr and Spigit to leverage their existing user bases.

One to watch I think.

Hi Louis, thanks for the write-up. Just for the record (other readers), we at microPledge definitely do hope to partner with people like this in the fairly near future.

We think the advantage of microPledge is not so much its ideas model (Cambrian House is similar in this regard), but its funding model. Better than fund-raising sites or PayPal donations buttons, because pledgers have the assurance development will get done … otherwise the developer won’t get paid. :-)
