Business Idea: Scamilicious - A Scam-site Alert Toolbar
Published by IdeaTagging.com May 26th, 2007 in All Business Ideas, Web/tech, BlogIn my previous post I described how I almost got fooled by a clever domain name scam. This has sparked yet another a business idea in my mind.
What if a toolbar existed that allowed users to mark a site as running a scam. Other users on visiting the site would then immediately be alerted to this.
Perhaps this is more of a feature than a business idea in itself but it could be a very useful tool it seems to me. Come to think of it, it would fit as a feature of my ultimate online audience tracking toolbar described in a another post.
Of course the scam sites could keep changing their web addresses once they have been rumbled by the toolbar’s users, but even forcing them into this kind of action and associated expense would be something of a triumph.

Isn’t that what SiteAdvisor is all about? A toolbar that tells you how
safe the site is in real time? SiteAdvisor was started by a local Boston guy, and got
bought out by McAfee more than $50M pre-launch. They only did an A-Round from the VCs (Bessemer?). Great Work Chris!
btw - love the blog!

Thanks Chandra
I always thought SiteAdvisor was more about Phishing and Malware alerts but I have just looked them up and you are right, they do do scam alerts as well.
Oh well, at least it is further proof that some of my ideas are sound
